Aspirations are Dashed! Doug Krizner, WHY!??!?

I have become a regular listener to the Marketplace Morning Report on KCRW. It's a wealth of information with what's going on in the world today, as well as a benchmark of what I need to get out of the house ASAP at that point.

The one thing I always looked forward to in my morning was at the end of the report where Doug Krizner would bid his goodbye for day and say, "Thanks for listening, and make it a good day."

Upon hearing those last five words right before music started, it really was just that little something that made me think, "Yeah, you know what? I WILL make it a good day!" particularly when I wasn't in the brightest of spirits at the time.

It soon became something I looked forward to in my morning while I was still at home, or when I was on my way to work on my endless journey from the Land Beyond Hope, and when Doug wasn't on and I didn't get that little bit of encouragement, I was a bit sad. That's not to say my day went awry, but my aspirations to make good were a bit dashed.

Then something horrible happened. Last month, I noticed he stopped saying it.

At first I thought it was a fluke, but morning after morning, I noticed it was never said. It was particularly disheartening not to hear it, especially since I was going through a pretty difficult time, and even the smallest gestures would make or break my spiraling into a deep depression or staying afloat.

I wondered if people didn't like that little phrase, as if there were a bunch of black-hearted cynics who listened to him every morning and didn't want to be told what to do. I can't think of any other reason why he'd have to stop saying it.

It's been a month without my morning bit of encouragement, and every 9:00 I listen to not hear it, my heart sinks a bit. In its stead, I say it in my head to remind myself, and maybe that's even better than a voice on the radio telling me to make it a good day.

At first I thought it was weird that Doug kept saying this weird phrase, but I grew to expect it, and said it along with him. Then he just stopped saying it and left me hanging. :(

I did read one blogger who didn't think it was a logical demand, but I've read more who appreciated the invitation.

If I didn't know any better, I'd say Marketplace went back and removed any reference to "make it a good day." I can only find 2 transcripts where he says this, and that's with a heavy search. I don't even like how he says it on those two podcasts! :P
