I've forgotten how awesome this stuff is.
It's a bit pricey, but it's definitely worth its weight in gold (especially since it's pretty dense as well). It's pretty durable, and it doesn't seem to leave adhesive around as badly as duct tape does. Plus, you can get them in different sizes and colors for all your taping needs.
I have a large roll of 3-4 inch tape, which I bought who knows how long ago. I'm not sure exactly why I got it, but I have a feeling that I may have gotten it for a photo shoot I assisted, and got to keep. Either way, I love this stuff. I rediscovered I have this roll again while cleaning my room, and it became really handy during that process. I have several dresser drawers (without the dresser) that I've been using for shelving, but when cleaning out my room, I needed them to actually store things. The only problem was that several of the drawers were broken or cracked, and wouldn't be able to bear much, if any weight. I figured that one day, I would actually take the time to get some tape glue or nails and fix them, but for what they're worth, it may not be worth the effort.
So I laid the gaffer tape on them and they're mostly as good as new!
Sure, now they have these huge blocks of black against the brown wood, but I'm not in it for looks. It's not like the drawers themselves were attractive at all, either.
Today, the tape has helped me officially ghetto-fy my phone.
At some point yesterday, the top part of my clamshell cell phone disconnected to the base. My dad pointed it out to me, and throughout the day, it would come loose again. I'm thinking that it may have been dropped amongst the day's craziness or the cumulative drops over time finally took it's toll. That obviously concerned me, especially since I have to wait until sometime in August until my phone contract is up and I can get money towards a new phone. Knowing me and the state it's currently in, the phone wouldn't last that long.
Today, after making a call, I noticed a small crack near the side where the screen disconnects from the base. There's a pretty reasonably-sized crack running along the outside of the phone, causing the screen to come loose.
Out comes the gaffer's tape to do the patch up. The stuff sticks well and looks like it's going to hold. Better yet, most of the area being taped up is black, so it's almost unnoticeable.
Thank you, Gaffer's Tape, for your cotton-based adhesive goodness.
Next to finding the stylus to my first and still missing Nintendo DS, you have been one of the best little re-discoveries of My Room Cleanout 2008. Let's be BFF and run off into the sunset, okay? Only I'll have to hold you in my left hand, because my right's a little weak at the the moment.
