Meh Again.

Combine a day where a good amount of heavy lifting was done (artistic depiction forthcoming), a lot of traffic, the unfulfilled desire to have any sort of awesome popcorn, and a television found me at my parents' place at 3:30am asleep on the couch with my man-cat on my lap. The latter part was nice, but the fact of the matter was that I was still there, and not at my place getting a good night's sleep made me really sad. I got my things together and drove home to an amount of traffic I didn't expect at such an hour. Somehow I managed to get in my jammies and fall asleep.

I had strange dreams. Not that it's surprising, as they've returned full force for the past couple of weeks, but the surprising thing is that I actually dream despite what little sleep I've been managing to get. There will be nights where I just lay in bed, tired and sleepy, but unable to fall asleep. Once I do, my subconscious brings the circus to my mind, mixing things that happened and was thought about during the day with completely off the wall things. But I digress much like my sleep, and I suddenly woke up this morning to complete silence and a bit of light coming from my window. It was eerie to wake up to silence, and wondered why my alarm wasn't blasting the radio. It automatically turns off after being on for an hour, and it shut itself off about two hours ago: it was already nine o' clock. YAY.

I otherwise wouldn't have had of a problem getting ready in a bit of a rush for the day, but I had to make sure I was at work by 10, as someone was coming by to pick up his forgotten Palm Pilot from Saturday's show. All I had time for was to do my bathroom stuff, grab a can of beans, a container of rice from the fridge, and I was off.

Guy didn't even come until about 10:30.

The day has rolled on as a big bunch of blah. One fun part was talking with my boss' housekeeper and how she and her husband are preparing for their daughter's birthday party tomorrow, and the logistics of getting lots of amazing food, what she's going to do with her daughter's picky eating friends of hers, and the difference with the big, familial parties she throws and is accustomed to compared to the subdued, non-adult incorporated, formal birthday parties to which she's taken her daughter. I told her that I grew up going to parties a lot like hers, and agreed those are much better. If time allows it, I may swing by to the remote city of Reseda to join in the celebration, have a lot of great meat and salsa and other goodies. My only sadness would be the fact that there will be no pupusas there, as it was her birthday on Wednesday, and she's had her fill of pupusas for the week. oh well.

What a slow, sad day. And I feel grimy after not being able to shower. The day's highlight just occurred, when she called me twice in a row in preparation for a fancy, fundraising dinner that's happening tomorrow night at a very fancy house:
Call 1:
Her: Hey, it's me again.
Me: Hi, Heidi!
Her: How's it going?
Me: Not bad...
Her: Could you do me a favor? Could you email Collette and tell her that Terry is a vegetarian tomrrow. She doesn't eat meat.
Me: Oh, okay. I'll do that right now.
Her: Thanks so much!
Me: No problem!
Her: Bye!
Me: Bye-bye!

Moments later...

Call 2:
Her: Hey, it's me again. Terry does eat fish.
Me: Ohhhh, okay, so she's a pescatarian?
Her: What? What's that?
Me: Those are people who only eat fish as far as eating animal products goes.
Her: Oh my gosh.
Me: You know, it further defines what animal parts they eat; you can figure out what they eat based on what they add to the terms. Ovo means they eat egg, lacto means they eat dairy. So an ovo-lacto-pescatarian eats all that stuff.
Her: Oh my goodness.
Me: Yep. Okay! I'll let Colette know!
Her: Thanks so much! I'll see you later!

Great conversations, or conversations at all, are very few and far between around here, but I'm coming to realize that it's definitely quality that trumps quantity, whether it be via email, phone, or in person.
