I'm not sure if I buy the "Pain is fear leaving the body." I just think pain is just lots of things working itself out.
This is yesterday's account. I woke up to the radio to hear how unbelievably cold it was at the time. Then again, we're in the middle of winter, but I guess thinking about going out in that cold wasn't so nice sounding. On top of that, I was still in a marginal amount of pain from the day before, and I decided to give my body a bit of a break today and sleep in a bit and do my run later in the day.
It was going to happen that way anyway. Natilie came with me after our schedules would work for each other. I have to say, I was looking forward to it, and it was very beneficial to the both of us.
She was very reluctant to start, and had forewarned me that she'd be bitching and complaining and would probably stop running with me. I told her that it's okay, we can separate, but she didn't see the point in going together if we weren't running together. Even though she did volunteer to give out water when I was training for the marathon, she never really saw how it was I trained, or just forgot. So I told her of my interval running, and that I was currently walking 3 and running 2. She said she could handle that.
Wednesday 16 January, 2008
LAP 1: 20.10.15
LAP 2: 18.25.79
LAP 3: 16.09.92
TOTAL: 54.45.86
There is a discrepancy of time between laps 2 and 3; I forgot to mark the lap about 10 yards in, and if I recall, it was during a walk interval. There may have been up to a minute off there.
It was great motivation to have Natilie around with me so I could talk with someone, it made the time go by so much faster, which made me happy. My foot continued to hurt a bit, which probably still accounted for the slowness, but I have to say, the running laps went really fast and we did excellent time. Unfortunately, my foot continued to hurt, and it would hurt even more when I took off my shoes and walked without it.
It was really nice to be running when it wasn't so cold. Granted, when I was training for the marathon, that's all I really knew (slight exaggeration), but I think it really contributed to my injuries and pain. As nice as it is to run alone and get lost in your thoughts, having someone alongside you as you go around the place makes the trip much, much more pleasant.
